Outside the Roles

August 17, 1970 at the corner of Congress and Howard Aves in New Haven. Connecticut. It's as true to day as it was 37 years ago. Even more important in the light of the knowledge gained over the years. The problem is based in the culture-more than the flaws and failings of individuals who attain their infamous or famous role on the public stage. What is held as the conventions is what holds civilization back.
For me, it is moving out into the fields that belong to intuition, serendipity of the soul's synchronicity. With the moment, I go to venture and to discover the answers needed. It is a break with minimalists and their rigid empirical materialism or the sectarian dogmatism to faith. It is transcendent to the numbers and their inferential derivatives, as well as the blind adherence to things held as if "written in stone".
There is something ontological to this intrepid quest I am making allusions about. It goes parallel to our carnal inception from the workings of our parents conjugation of their DNA. I suspect that there is a role we CHOOSE before even the pro-lifers would want to acknowledge as critical to the survival of the being. It goes back to the existential dialectic and even biblical verses. The Hegel-philes would talk of the movement of history flowing from roles given to individuals and people for moving forward the dynamics of history. How the roles are bestowed on these individuals and ethnic groups, for Hegel, came from an intellectual and technological nexus that was biased to the European development. Removing the cultural bias, one could distill the concept of the innovative use of intellect and technology-soft and hard- that enabled persons and nations to become predominant at certain moments of history.
The teachings of Jesus in the Bible take a mystical view of those who would become the dynamic for the moment. In Matthew 18:7, Jesus is quoted as saying, '7 Woe to the world because of offenses! For offenses must come, but woe to that man by whom the offense comes!' The instruments of atrocities and outrages will come by way of those who'd bear the culpability for those offenses. For those believing in predestination, those who acquire those roles were the chosen, even though their acts were by "free will".
Unlike the assertions of Hegel, these latter bearers of the course of history were not the function of a reductionist confluence of intellectual predisposition and technological opportunity. These were not the boot-strap Horatio Algers of history who by pluck and ingenuity achieved their license in history. They were fated for the roles they took.
Let me throw in another thesis that may be the reconciliation between these excluding propositions. "From those for whom much is given, much is expected." The "fate" of one's birth and nurturing gave the individual the hard and soft tools for which they were self-consciously conscientious to utilize for the imperatives they interpreted of that social responsibility. In short, a consciousness steered individuals and people towards their dynamic role in history. Fate gave them the hard and soft tools of geo-history to be the self-conscious instruments of implementation of that will of conscience.
These arguments are saying that the movements of history do not come from some mass divine ordination of noblesse oblige for a group of people or a nation, nor some unavoidable fate. It is the acceptance of a consciousness that drove them to their focused legacy. Doing this goes beyond the path the herd of their temporal time conceives for themselves.
The moral fortitude which is praised or condemned based on the judgements of the time is transcendent to their contemporaries. That transcendence goes with the conceptions to which they develop a conviction and a resolve. The conviction and resolve come from the soft technology of notions derived from events leaving hints and clues of another choice of answers than the presumptive answers of conventionality. The paradoxes of double-standards and inconsistency of ethics are examples that precipitate these notions of unconventionality. In many of these instances there is the ends of maintaining a status quo at the sacrifice of the truth and honesty, which is held, otherwise, as sacrosanct. These inconsistencies and double-standards when collected in aggregate provide a collage of an artifice that is not the divine will of the author of truth and honesty, but the temporal machinations of men.
From what other source would the individual obtain the soft tools of knowledge, if not from their contemporary civilization? I would say that there is an occult factor to be acknowledged. That occult factor would begin in the individuals acceptance of their own intuition. Intuition is not some ex nihilo phenomena. It is the collection of experiences organized in the sub-conscious for associative use. The broader the scope of data collected by the person, the more options for associative deductions or inductions. These deductive and inductive conclusions give the individual the counter-point to the presumptive conventions of their cultural world. Consider these conclusions as the mutations of conception. These conclusions come not just in a detached context, but in a context of significance. This context of significance I refer to as synchronicity and serendipity.
Synchronicity and serendipity have been disparaged by reductionists because of their inherent contention with mechanistic logic of consequential linking of events. It has less than sympathetic acceptance with sectarians since events not within the orthodoxy of religious teachings undermine the teachings of the unitary consciousness controlling the universe. Because the mechanistic and theistic schools of thought would reject this heresy to their intellectual disciplines, the individual is left as either a vassal to either schools of thought or a potential intellectual and emotional renegade to these systems of thoughts.
The phenomena of synchronicity and serendipity occur as rude cognitive eruptions in the fabric of the mundane life of the individual. For the few who do not dismiss these occurrences as random inconsequential obstructions to their conventional routine, finding a meaning or purpose becomes an embedded seed for germination by later events for speculation.
Where this later speculation takes the individual, is the subject of this paper. The context of the later speculation is that there is a role that runs counter to the presumptions of life lived by others. That presumption is both non-humanistic and nonsectarian. The speculations leads the individual away from the tribute and acclaim given to the desires and status of the body. There is no importance given to the body as an iconic entity with the license to dominate over other entities. There is no pursuit of a discreet distinction from others for the purpose of power and privilege.
The speculation is nonsectarian, because it dismisses the infallibility of the passed down written word. There is no attribution to an exclusive theological explanation of our origin and obeisance to an omnipotent anthropomorphic super-natural force-a God.
The speculation due delve into the occult, because of the anomalous phenomena that characterize the synchronistic and serendipitous events. The powers "behind" the events are as inscrutable as the monotheistic divinities of Judaism, Islam, and Christianity. Yet, the events occur as if a consciousness was seeking an affected outcome. The event challenges the probabilistic statistics for its genesis. There appears to be a purpose for the event beyond the participants design or beyond the happenstance of serendipity, per se. The events seem to direct the individual to the notion that a purpose has been designed for that particular individual. The events are spread out over time to orient the person's focus toward a specific end purpose beyond the temporal obligations.
Each succeeding event frames a scenario in which the actor becomes more aware of the contrast between what they are coming to see as the profane temporal life and the sacred intuitional life of serendipity and synchronicity. As it evolves the life of synchronicity becomes less with a reanalysis and reorientation of one's thinking to the formerly associated temporal life style. The ways of the world become irrelevant to what are the priorities for living.
One reaches the stage that temporal associations are just the maze of distractions from the true focus that is based in one's individual virtue. The role one plays is not based in family, in the social nexus of locale, in region culture or nation. It is based in meaningful symbols that are metaphors of significance. Meaning transcends language and one's native tongue. Symbolic cognitions are the language. These cognitions take one on a journey of the soul, emotionally.
The journey is like an reduction-oxidation reaction. One's psychic state is changed from one seeking the external trappings of the world to one reduced to one's feral, most basic nature. The distinctions that functionally created neurotic barriers between one and the outside world come crumbling down. Words become gratuitous obstructions. Words just get in the way! They are ephemeral vehicles of meaning. Meaning, itself, is a subjective experience distorted by the perceiver's own perception.
How does one progress with any certainty. The answer is 'one does not'. The human instrument is amazingly adaptive and accommodating to different states. Over the millions of years of existence our bodies and mind have learned to be flexible to changes in its perceived environment. The trick is maintaining a functional relation in one's environment with the least amount of psychic baggage to burden you. Some people are able to do this with material possession. Some are able to do this with no moral or ethical standards. How ever this is accomplished, being psychically freed is what is most important. This psychic freedom makes one material existence no more than a utilitarian set of tools. The tools' value are circumstance relevant. It is the facile use and conceptual adaptation for use of the tools that is most important.
The temporal, mundane world become props on a metaphysical stage. The ties to the externalities of one's age become less important than the knowledge of insight mined from one's consciousness while in that existence. the power and energy to be and 'am' become the commodity of value.
Within the commodity of energy is the unity of one's extension and relationship to other entities, physical and metaphysical, of the cosmos. Metaphorical meaning becomes the driving energy. Energy, unencumbered by limits, becomes the energy of extreme potential. The individual who can move their self to that point of free energy becomes the metamorphed camel shedding its mass to move through the eye of the needle.
Having synchronicity disrobe you of the tangible and intangible things for which one strives and desires brings you to the realization of how much b.s. and trivialities has directed and manipulated your life. You learn that you CAN live with less and the little know patronizingly as modest. As you learn to thrive with less, you learn that you can thrive even better with the absence of personalities that were part of your emotional world. Being emotionally free provides the room to be intellectually free, and therefore, physically free.
In that freedom of ascetic virtue you'd be celebrating the fortitude and resilience you've acquired in your metamorphosis from that camel-like beast of burden, fat from your self-indulgences to the tiny gnat who can squeeze through the eye of the needle. That state of being which allows you to enter the eye is the same state that brings you into harmony with the unmanipulated physical and psychological needs of your body. You no longer are the pawn of indifferent market forces or the social extortion from loved ones and your own compulsions to assume external identities and roles. You are not the road-kills of your own self-abuse that becomes the logic for abuse of your geo-social environment.
You enter the realms of re-education and self-indoctrination, your mantra. The repetition of mantras are the continual physical and mental practice of organizational and operational habits for the ever more focused purpose of your actions. As you sharpen your focus, you more discreetly define that identity which those inscrutable synchronistic clues and hints had been leading you through the years. The things which had been a drain on your physical energy and power have dropped away. You have become your own person for the moment. That existential moment of union in your engagement with your environment. You become one with with the rhythms and pulse that vibrate around you. You return to the natural world into which you were born for.
